A  little  history . . .

About The Ozark Alliance Minimize

Alex & Jenny started spending time with their first instruments (guitar & fiddle, respectively) early in 2002, when they were 10 and 8 years old.  Since they've never taken lessons, they have developed their instrumental skills by practicing with Dad & Mom around the campfire and in the living room at home.  They learn almost exclusively by ear, listening to CDs by their favorite bluegrass artists and trying to do their best to play along with the many excellent musicians that they have become friends with.  Jenny had been playing fiddle for less than a year when it became obvious that she could be having even more fun by learning to play mandolin, so in the summer of 2003 she became a multi-instrumentalist.  (With the passage of time she has also started playing around with the guitar, and Alex also plays mandolin and bass and even goofs around on the banjo every now and then.)

We became a band in September of 2002 when we were asked to do a guest band spot at a local festival.  Less than a year later, in August of 2003, we entered the band contest at the Eureka Springs Bluegrass Festival (Eureka Springs, Arkansas) and took 2nd place out of over 25 bands.  (Alex & Jenny had only been pickin' for about a year and a half.)  In September of 2003 we competed in the "Youth in Bluegrass" contest at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, and took 1st place.  Since then we have played in many great venues in places like Lexington, Nashville, Branson, Eureka Springs, Colorado, North Platte,NE, and numerous events in Kansas.  We've been honored to open for or share the stage with some of the biggest names in Bluegrass (The Dillards, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, The Seldom Scene, Rhonda Vincent, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Marty Stuart, Audie Blaylock & Redline, Ronnie Reno, Larry Stephenson, Albert E. Brumley, Jr., David Grier, etc.)

In March of 2007 we were honored to be chosen to tape a segment of "The Old Country Church" TV show, which is produced by and airs on BlueHighwaysTV (a venture of Ronnie Reno & Stan Hitchcock).  Another great honor came in August of 2007 when we were chosen to be the entertainment at the Governor's annual Bar-B-Q hosted by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt at the Missouri Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City.  Then in May of 2008, we once again competed in a national competition sponsored by Silver Dollar City. This time it was the National Single Mic Championship, and we again were awarded 1st place honors. We have had many exciting experiences so far, and we look forward to more great pickin' adventures.
